Family Emergency Notification Methods

Brea Olinda Unified School District continuously strives to improve school safety and to provide accurate and timely information to our families during a school emergency or urgent event. The District will provide parents/guardians with as much accurate information as possible, in as timely a manner possible, without compromising the safety of any person involved or violating laws relating to confidentiality. In the event of a school or district-wide emergency, parents and guardians can receive information through a variety of methods, depending on the time and manner of the emergency. The following list contains information on methods used to communicate during emergencies or urgent events:

ParentSquare Mass Notifications
ParentSquare has options to notify families via text message, phone call and email alert. During an emergency or urgent event, our current practice is to initiate a phone call and email to all contacts listed for each student. ParentSquare pulls contact information from the Aeries Parent Portal so it is important that contact information is kept up-to-date. If any changes to your child's contact information needs to be updated, please login to the Aeries Parent Portal to update the information and complete the data confirmation process.

District/School Website
The District will use the District and school websites to communicate information to families, staff and the community. The District website is https://www.bousd.us/

Social Media
Brea Olinda Unified School District has an official Facebook page, Instagram page, and X account that are dedicated to conveying emergency information. Families are encouraged to subscribe/follow the District's social media accounts in addition to school social media accounts.

Brea Police and Fire Departments
The District works closely with the Brea Police Department and Brea Fire Department to ensure that information is communicated accurately and in a timely manner for both District families and the Brea community. During emergencies, Brea Police and Fire Departments use social media to provide the community with regular updates. Families are encouraged to subscribe/follow Brea Police on X and Brea Police on Facebook

News Media
The District will work with our local media partners to provide our community with timely and accurate information.

IMPORTANT: During an emergency or urgent event, we understand that a parent's first reaction will be to call the school or want to pick up their child. However, we urge parents to refrain from calling or going to the school as phone lines can get overloaded and traffic congestion interferes with response of emergency personnel; both can delay efforts to ensure campus security, and student and staff safety. If all contact information is kept up-to-date with your child's school, you will receive emergency updates as soon as they become available.
