BOUSD Board of Education Certifies Election Results for $160 Million Bond Measure

The Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) is proud to announce that during the Jan. 23 Board of Education meeting, the Board officially certified the results of Measure H, a $160 Million school bond measure which was approved by voters in November. Measure H is a transformative initiative designed to address critical needs across the district, including modernizing the 108-year-old Brea Junior High and improving facilities to support high-quality teaching and learning.

With Measure H now certified, BOUSD can move forward with plans to repair and upgrade aging infrastructure, remove hazardous materials, enhance student safety, and provide modern classrooms and technology to support science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) instruction.

Superintendent Brinda Leon expressed her gratitude to the community for their overwhelming support back in November after preliminary election results showed voter approval beyond the 55% needed to pass the measure.  "We are incredibly grateful to the Brea Olinda community for coming together to pass Measure H, as well as to our dedicated Board members and everyone who donated their time and resources to make this possible," said Leon. "The passage of Measure H is a vital step toward creating learning environments that reflect the excellence of teaching and learning happening in our schools every day."

Measure H requires strict accountability through the establishment of an independent Citizen’s Oversight Committee, which will monitor expenditures and progress. During the board meeting on Jan. 23, Superintendent Leon and Assistant Superintendent Rick Champion provided the public with an update on Measure H, including information on the Citizens’ Oversight Committee (COC). A copy of the presentation is available here

Community members interested in joining the COC are encouraged to submit their interest by completing an application by 5 p.m. on Feb. 28. The application is available online

BOUSD looks forward to beginning the planning phase and partnering with the community to bring impactful improvements to schools districtwide. With Measure H, the district will honor its commitment to providing safe, modern, and innovative learning environments for all students.
