Community Update on BOHS Closure - Nov. 13

Community Update on BOHS Closure - November 13, 2024

BREA, Calif. - Brea Olinda High School (BOHS) and School District officials continued to work with the Brea Police Department throughout the day to investigate a potential threat posted on social media which began circulating on Nov. 12. All other Brea Olinda USD schools were open for regular operations and were held without incident.

As of 4:30 p.m., the threat against BOHS remains under investigation and several leads were pursued. The District and Brea PD appreciates the community’s support in sharing information to aid in the investigation; however, no information received thus far has substantiated the credibility of the threat. Therefore, in collaboration with law enforcement and given that the potential threat only contained information specific to Nov. 13, which has now passed, BOHS will re-open for regular school operations on Thursday, November 14, 2024.

No additional threats have been directed at Brea Olinda High School or other schools within the district since the investigation began. The District understands the sensitivity of the situation and as such, will have additional security measures in place and increased law enforcement presence at Brea Olinda High School for the next couple of days. Brea PD will also have frequent patrols conducted at all campuses to help safeguard the well-being of our staff and students.

We appreciate your continued patience as we work through this matter and assure you that we are taking the situation very seriously. Your child(ren)’s school counselor is available for them to connect with if they need to talk to someone.

Additional updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

Brea Olinda High School Closed November 13 Due to Safety Concerns

BREA, Calif. Brea Olinda High School (BOHS) will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, due to an unspecified threat which is under investigation by the Brea Police Department and could not be confirmed as non-credible or credible at the time of this press release.

On the evening of Nov. 12, school officials were made aware of a threat circulating on social media which contained an image of two firearms and text on the image stating “look out for tomorrow, @bohs”. No other BOUSD schools were mentioned in this potential threat. School and district officials immediately reported the threat to law enforcement who began an investigation.

Ensuring the safety and well-being of students, staff, and the community is the school’s highest priority. As a precaution, and since the threat could not be confirmed as non-credible or credible at the time of this press release, school and district officials have made the decision to cancel all classes and school activities at BOHS scheduled for Nov. 13.

While we understand this news may be concerning, please know that this decision is made out of an abundance of caution.

The community can expect to see increased law enforcement presence at all campuses and at BOHS as the investigation continues. We appreciate the support of parents, students, and staff for their understanding and cooperation in this matter. If anyone has information regarding the threat please call the Brea Police Department at 714-990-7911. The District encourages all families to participate in the “See Something, Say Something” initiative. All schools have Text-A-Tip phone numbers that are unique to each site.

Further updates and information about Brea Olinda High School’s reopening will be communicated via the District’s official communication channels.
