Brea Olinda Unified School District Celebrates Groundbreaking of School Site Fencing Projects

Brea Olinda Unified School District celebrated the groundbreaking of a school site fencing project that is set to begin at multiple schools in the district starting in September. The event, which took place on Aug. 20 at Laurel Elementary Magnet School marked a significant milestone in the District’s ongoing commitment to enhance safety measures at all BOUSD schools and ensure that students can learn in a secure and safe environment.

“The enhancement of perimeter fencing at our school sites is a critical component of this effort, serving as a first line of defense to control access to our campuses and guide visitors through a single point of entry into our main offices,” said Superintendent Brinda Leon. “We value our school board for supporting this initiative and approving this expenditure which is paid for utilizing our district facilities funds.”

The estimated $3 million project will include fencing upgrades for all nine of the district’s school sites including Arovista Elementary, Brea Country Hills Elementary, Falcon Academy, Laurel Elementary Magnet School, Mariposa Elementary, Olinda Elementary, Brea Junior High, Brea Canyon High School and Brea Olinda High School.

The groundbreaking celebration welcomed principals, Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) leaders, City of Brea officials and community partners.

“This initiative has been the result of collaborative efforts between district leadership, staff, parents, and the broader community. It’s a true example of what we can achieve when we come together with a shared purpose,” said Board President Paul Ruiz.

PTO Council President Dani Repp said “Fencing around our schools is and has been a very hot topic and a top wish list item for most Brea parents. It’s always been a huge concern, and rightfully so. The safety of our children is paramount and one crucial aspect of ensuring their safety is the presence of school fences.”

Fencing enhancements are set to begin in September starting at Laurel Elementary Magnet School, Brea Country Hills Elementary and Brea Junior High School. For ongoing updates, visit the District’s website and social media pages.
