BOUSD Announces Leadership Transitions for the Start of the 2024-25 School Year

The Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) is excited to announce several key leadership transitions within the district, reflecting our commitment to fostering educational excellence and supporting student success. These changes will be effective starting in the 2024-2025 school year.

Bryson Burns, formerly a History and Social Sciences Teacher at Brea Olinda High School, has been appointed as the new Assistant Principal of Brea Olinda High School. Mr. Burns brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for student engagement to his new role. His innovative teaching methods and dedication to student achievement have earned him respect among students and staff alike.

Sheri Cole, who has served as the Principal of Brea Junior High School, will transition to the role of Career Technical Education (CTE) Counseling Coordinator with a focus on K-8. In her new position, Ms. Cole will leverage her extensive experience in educational leadership to enhance the district’s CTE programs, providing students with valuable guidance and resources to prepare for future careers.

Krissy Ettinger will take on the role of Special Education Coordinator. With a strong background in special education, Ms. Ettinger is well-equipped to support our diverse student population and ensure that all students receive the personalized services they need to thrive.

Dr. Kristin Risberg will assume the role of Principal of Brea Junior High School. As an accomplished educator whose career in Southern California has been marked by a variety of roles including elementary and middle school teacher, coordinator, instructional coach, assistant principal at BJHS, principal and district coordinator of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Risberg is excited to return to BJHS to help ignite young minds, foster innovation and shape tomorrow's leaders.

Superintendent Brinda Leon expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming school year and the new leadership team. "We are thrilled to see these talented educators step into new roles within our district. Their dedication and expertise will undoubtedly enhance our programs and support our mission of providing a high-quality education to every student."
